The Washroom
Quin
I backed up as far as I could go in the tiny washroom, my bottom pressing against the counter. The faint scent of anger rolled off Elex, and my wolf whimpered long and loud. The Alpha's large body consumed the entire door frame, and, for the first time since he arrived, I was scared of him.
"Omega Quin?"
A wave of relief washed over me as I recognized the voice of one of my guards. It was Edon. He was one of the Beta guards that would station next to my bedroom door when I would suffer my heat.
But Elex didn't move. He stayed firmly in place, just watching me, seemingly not worried about being caught alone in the small space.
My breath hitched as I stared at Elex, too frightened to yell out. A small smile played on his lips as he waited. For what? I didn't know.
"Omega Quin?â Edon said again.
Elex angled into the hallway and smiled brightly. "He's just here."
Beta Edon came into view over Elex's shoulder, but he still didn't move. I was trapped.
"Everything okay?" Edon asked.
The young guard moved his eyes from Elex to me, a cautious look in his eyes. I wanted to fling myself at him and run down the fall straight to Zev, but fear kept me in place.
"I was just escorting Omega Quin to the washroom." Elex's polite smile remained bright and charming, but it didnât feel right. Dread slipped down my spine, and my hands went cold.
Edon nodded, watching me carefully. "Sir," he turned to Elex. "If you wouldn't mind speaking in the hallway where I can see you, I'm sure Alpha Rin wouldn't like you being alone."
I pushed myself away from the counter, but Elex stayed put.
"I just wanted a quick word with Quin.â He flashed his white teeth at the guard.
Edon rested his hands on his belt, agitation rolling off him. I envied the Beta's ability to push back on an Alpha. "Omega Quin," he turned his hard eyes to me, "come here."
I jumped at his words, quickly edging around Elex's big body. Once outside the washroom, Edon turned, and I moved to follow, but Elex grabbed my arm, pulling me back. I thought briefly of yelling out, but my back came in contact with the wall so fast, Elex's massive form blocking my exit.
Edon came to a stop at the end of the hallway and turned to face us. His eyes stayed on me, and I took a slow breath, thankful for the familiar face watching over me.
"I was worried about you," Elex said, taking half a step back and releasing my arm.
"I'm sorry," I mumbled, looking down.
Tucking my elbows into my sides, I clasped my hands and squeezed. My wolf begged me to run and hide, but I was scared of what Elex might do if I tried to leave.
Placing a long finger under my chin, Elex tilted my head up. "What happened, my Omega?" His voice was deep and oddly sharp. "You seemed so upset at breakfast."
"I, I'm not feeling well," I said softly.
